Increasing Risk of Cardiovascular Disease in Women

The heart is called the wellspring of life. It makes you believe that you are alive by realizing you every passing moment of your life.  As if your heart is unhealthy it will affect every aspect of your life be it, family, friends, and career too. Therefore, it is crucial to protect your heart.

According to a recent survey 2 out of 4 women are at a risk of cardiovascular diseases. It is the leading cause of death in the world among both men and women. The cardiovascular disease was known to be a most common cause of death among males and breast cancer is known as the most common  cause of death among women .but now the story has changed .Women are three times more likely to die of heart disease than breast cancer.

There most common type of heart disease found in women is Coronary heart disease (CHD) and Coronary micro vascular disease (CMVD). In coronary heart disease layer of fat, cholesterol, and other things are building up on the inside of your arteries. It causes the flow of the blood to slow down. Decreased blood flow causes transfer less oxygen to the heart muscle and this can lead to chest pain. In coronary micro vascular disease, it affects the tiny arteries in the wall of the heart.

Women live longer than men. Their body works in a different way. There are many unique aspects of women’s heart health. A women’s reproductive hormone estrogen gives protection to the women’s cardiovascular health. But, it can change depending upon on a various number of factors. Women who consume oral contraceptive pills are prone to high blood pressure and those who smoke and take contraceptives are already at a greater risk of stroke. A recent study shows that after menopause, women are at higher risk of heart diseases .This is because of the decrease in the number of the female hormones estrogen. When estrogen level lowers in the female body the good cholesterol decreases and bad cholesterol increases in the female body.

The symptoms of cardiovascular diseases are usually different for women compared to men. Women tend to feel nausea, indigestion, pain in the shoulder, burning sensations in the abdomen and a lot of sweating. Whereas in men the most common sign of cardiovascular disease is chest pain. Because women don’t feel pain in their chest they are prone to ignore the symptoms of heart attack.

With the right information and clinical guidance, women have enormous power to reduce their risk of heart diseases. The main causes of heart diseases are smoking, obesity and high blood pressure. Keeping regular checkup of blood pressure and take medical assistance if it is not at a normal level of 110/70, don’t develop tobacco eating habits; it raises the risk of heart diseases. Eating healthy diet also plays a very important role. Healthy eating will promote a healthy weight and you will be less prone to obesity. Regular exercising is also important.
